The Wire-crested Thorntail is a small hummer (~2.5in) that zipped around the flowering shrubs and trees at Cock-of-the-Rock Lodge (around 5,000 ft on the wet, east side of the Andes). It was one of ten hummingbird species we saw in the vicinity — I saw around 35 hummer species during the 2 + week trip. This is a pretty neat little bird — like many of the hummingbirds, it is amazingly attired.
